Goya in Bordeaux: Francisco Goya (1746-1828) and France
June 2 @ 4:00 pm - 5:15 pm
A new art history lecture on Zoom
by Dr. Susan Benforado Bakewell
Free for members $5 non-members
In 1824 the celebrated Spanish court painter, Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828), left Madrid for exile in France. Four years in Bordeaux yielded paintings, drawings, and prints of great ingenuity, a late-life finale inflected by his long engagement in his native Spain with the arts of France and ideas of the French Enlightenment, which this talk will investigate.
